Robert is a native Michiganian who has been making his mark on vocal music since he was a student at the prestigious Cass Technical High School in Detroit. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Oakland University. His doctorate is in Educational Leadership with a Music cognate.
He is the former Vocal Music Director, Arts and Communications Academy Coordinator, and Assistant Principal at Southfield-Lathrup High School, Principal at Thompson Middle School, Leadership Consultant at Oakland Schools and Chief Deputy for Strategic Reform for the Pontiac Schools. He is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for the West Bloomfield Schools. Robert has been the Artistic Director of Madrigal Chorale of Southfield since 1990 and a member since 1984. He is the former Director of the Metropolitan Detroit Youth Chorus and the Lighthouse Singers.
Robert’s choral ensembles consistently received the highest critical acclaim at state and national festivals and competitions, and in national and international touring including London, England and Vienna, Austria. In 1991 and 1999, Robert’s peers elected him to conduct a State Honors Choir and in 1999 they voted him Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s Teacher of the Year. Robert is married to the former Kim Price and they are the proud parents of Timothy and Christopher.
Betsy recently retired after 36 years in public education, most of which was at the junior high level at Van Hoosen Middle School in Rochester Hills, MI. An adjudicator and clinician, she currently serves as editor of the ACDA-MI newsletter, Bella Voce, maintains a private voice studio, and directs the Epworth and Youth Choirs at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Rochester.
Betsy has a BA in Voice Performance from Albion College and an MA in choral conducting from Oakland University.
She directed the MSVMA SATB Junior High Honors Choirs in 1993 and again in 2007, was named Rochester Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1996 and 2003, and was a finalist for Michigan School Vocal Music Association 2009 Teacher of the Year. She previously served as ACDA Central Division Junior High Repertoire and Standards Chair.
Betsy shares her love of music with husband, Peter and daughter, Darcy.
